There are other ways to address the anxiety about the changes that are about to happen in your life.
As I was in the studio preparing to appear on TV for this segment, another woman in the studio shared this anecdote with me – she told me that before the birth of her son, she and her husband took a ski vacation. They figured it would be the last time they’d get a chance to go skiing for a long time. On her first run down the hill, her center of balance felt totally different and she fell. She put her arm out to break her fall, and tore the rotator cuff in her shoulder. Not only did that push to cram in that last “must do” ruin her babymoon, but it also made it so she couldn’t carry her son for the first few months after he was born three months later.
All this is not to say that you shouldn’t have a great adventure when you take a special babymoon vacation before the baby arrives. It’s a suggestion to take advantage of the time alone together to go deeper into your relationship and lay a solid foundation for parenting while you have the time and space to do it. Watch the video of my conversation with Seth, who is expecting a baby in the next few months.
